Economist Dr. Christopher Thornberg with
1st Enterprise CEO John Black
Economic Forecaster Chris Thornberg Speaks on 1st Enterprise Thought Leadership Series
Christopher Thornberg, widely considered to be one of California’s leading economic forecasters, spoke at 1st Enterprise Bank’s Thought Leadership series in January.  The evening at the Petersen Automotive Museum was attended by more than 400 of the Bank’s customers and colleagues. Thornberg sees mostly positive events unfolding for California business in 2012-2013 based on key indicators.  He said, “Despite the negative hype, U.S. and California economies are picking up steam; much of the momentum behind California's economic recovery can be traced to its booming export trade; and the economies of Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, and the Inland Empire are slowly recovering.”
Thornberg has appeared on major TV and radio news shows and is regularly quoted in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Chicago Tribune.

1st Enterprise’s CEO Featured in
Los Angeles Business Journal
In their November 2011 annual ranking of banks by size, the Los Angeles Business Journal turned to 1st Enterprise Bank’s CEO to comment on the banking climate in California, “We will continue to see consolidation, and I think that the pace of that may increase,” said John Black, chief executive of 1st Enterprise Bank based in downtown Los Angeles.  “A lot of banks have reached a plateau stage in their ability to grow organically.”
Black said he wants 1st Enterprise, which was started over five years ago, to continue to grow organically at a sustainable rate well above its peers.  As of 6/30/11 the bank had increased its total assets to $526 million, up 13% over the preceding 12 months, and bumping it up two spots in the rankings to No. 22 in Los Angeles County – a point of pride for Black.  “Our goal is definitely to continue to move up that list,” he said, “It says something to the banking community and our customers, it says something to the people we would like to recruit.  In banking, size and profitability matter.”
